Trapped in a Radiation Field
From: CPR News
05/15/02

Here we are in the 21st century where the use of cell phones world wide is growing rapidly. We have all seen smokers in a confined room/designated smoking area puffing away, inhaling their own smoke and the smoke around them . This is a visable sight and viewed by non-smokers as disgusting and very unhealthy. We could not imagine ourselves in that environment. Well, imagine this scenario. A crowded subway car, elevator, train car or bus where say 30 people activate their cell phones, each phone giving off radiation, half of which goes into the user and the rest into space---your space. Since you are in an enclosed area, the radiation has no where to go but reflect back inside into you from all angles. The radiation from all the active phones would add together to increase the overall density of radiation but unlike the smoke in the smokers area, you would not see it. Since most commuters do the same thing every day, imagine the cumulative effect of being exposed to these levels of radiation every day--an invisable health hazard to both the user and those around the users. This could become a new environmental health issue. We would welcome your comments.
